Bromeliad growing on a tree limb in Monteverde.
This week was a busier work week for both of us, so we didn't do a ton of exploring. We did take a day trip to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and hike up to the Continental Divide! As a person who had major abdominal surgery just under 4 months ago, I was super proud to be able to say that I did that! However the hike was really more like a walk with some steep hills. The view from the Continental Divide was breathtaking.
We also traveled to several new beaches this week. But most of the days we worked, swam in the pool, watched the sunset at Playa Langosta, and bobbed in the waves at Playa Tamarindo.

Bomarea Hirsuta in Monteverde. I saw a hummingbird eating out of this one but was too slow with my camera. Also, do hummingbirds eat? Or just sip?
Weird tree in Monteverde.

Monteverde has a well-kept path
The moss on these trees was insane!
One of my favorite things to do is sit outside by the pool and read or work. In the process I see all kinds of interesting birds and lizards! Fortunately our Airbnb host fumigates regularly for scorpions, so I haven't seen any of those. This green lizard stayed on this plant by the pool in the exact same spot for like 24 hours! Who knows their lizards and can identify him?
We tried a restaurant in Tamarindo this week called La Kitchen. They serve an interesting combo of food - sandwiches called milanese, empanadas, pizza, burgers. It was tasty. We generally avoid eating out, due to my restrictive food allergies. I follow a low-nickel diet, and have to be pretty careful, so we've only eaten at 2 restaurants here. I don't know what I was thinking, but I completely forgot to ask questions about the food at La Kitchen. That was a mistake, as I later realized the empanadas were not low-nickel. But they were good!
We visited 4 new beaches this week. It's really true that if you are at a beach you don't like, just go 15 minutes down the road and there will be another to try! Each beach has its own interesting character, and some people like some aspects better than others. I personally look for beaches with smooth sand (not rocky), swimmable waves and warm water. It's also really nice if the road to get there is decent and there is shade available, but those are nice-to-haves. Click the pictures or links below to see more photos of our beach days.
While driving around to different beaches one day, we came across this vantage point over Playa Prieta on the lower left. It never becomes tiresome looking out at these Pacific views.
And now, for some gratuitous un-edited Playa Langosta sunset photos!
It was a wonderful week in paradise.
