Playa Sámara was on my bucket list for our 2022 trip after reading so many articles citing it as one of the top 5 beaches in Costa Rica.
It IS a picture perfect beach. Gorgeous blue skies and blue water. Palm trees waving in the breeze. Almond sand. I could have looked at that beauty for days.
However, I also like to swim in the ocean whenever possible, and Playa Sámara made that difficult. The beach itself had a wide path of rocks to cross to get into the ocean. If I'd had my water shoes that would have been no problem, but I left them at the villa that day! The wave action was also a little too big for me to enjoy my leisurely bobbing around.
We missed the main entrance to the beach and ended up a little south, where a lovely family let us park in their yard! The beach is pretty narrow - not much in the way of dunes - so you're right up against the houses belonging to the lucky locals.
Playa Sámara was definitely worth the 2-hour drive from our home base in Playa Langosta. We enjoyed the scenery on the drive and had a lovely few hours enjoying the view!
