In 2020, we attempted to visit a beach which is known on Google Maps as "Crab Crab Beach" only to be thwarted because we would have had to cross a small field of cows. Some of the beaches in this part of Guanacaste are only accessible by bad dirt roads with overgrown brush and so it didn't seem too crazy that we'd have to go through a cow field to get to one, but it also gave the impression that maybe we weren't supposed to be there. So we left.
We went back on this trip to try again, and sure enough, there were people parked right outside the cow field hanging out on the beach just beyond. So we went to take a look around.
It was a really lovely spot. Very small and quiet, not too many folks around. Very rocky, so definitely would need water shoes at this beach. Plenty of shady spots to set up.
Arboreal Termites nest. They're all around Guanacaste but this one was huge!
When we were ready to go, we decided to drive further south on the beach path to a spot where we had seen some howler monkeys in 2020. But on the way, we discovered why the cows were not blocking our beach access!
We turned around and went the long way around to scout other beaches. But the name Cow Beach is now firmly cemented. We'll never be able to call it anything else!
