On this particular day, we went driving looking for a certain beach called Playa Penca. We were drawn to visiting Playa Penca due to reading that it was a "hidden" beach or "local gem." To us, that means uncrowded and unspoiled. Well...the article that said that was written in 2018 and a lot has changed in Costa Rica. Playa Penca was very crowded! We did not even park and get out, there were too many cars and we would have had to park far away. So we continued up the coast a while, and all the beaches we found were the same - crowded and far from parking. So, we turned around and headed for Playa Punta de Pelencho, which is the beach between the much busier Playa Brasilito and Playa Flamingo.
Yet another gorgeous beach in Guanacaste. It's very wide beach with almond and black sand, and a view of Loros Island. The waves are great for swimming, and the water is COLD. On the hot summer days here, it feels great! There were a few families set up with their cars and tables on the beach, but the beach was so large it did not feel crowded at all.
