In February of 2020, right before the world shut down due to a pandemic, we had a little vacation to the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. We stayed in an airbnb near Playa Conchal, which is an out-of-the-way beach in the northern part of the Nicoya Peninsula. It's about 90 mins drive from the Liberia airport, and accessible by dirt roads. We definitely appreciated our 4x4 in getting to the Airbnb, but it is possible to drive a sedan to get to the beach.
Conchal is one of the most gorgeous beaches I've ever laid eyes on. The sand is gorgeous - white and silky. There is not much shade available, so we brought a beach umbrella. It's also nearly deserted! We were there in February, and I think we saw maybe 10 other people on the beach the whole time we were there.
The view of Brasilito Bay from our Airbnb. Playa Conchal is one of the beaches on this bay.
The first night we arrived in Costa Rica, although we were exhausted, we had to go check out the beach.
Daytime at Playa Conchal
The next day, we went back to find coconuts roasting in the sun. Only about 700mi from the equator
Just brush on the beach. Not many trees large enough for shade.
It seems either we went to Playa Conchal on a busier day this time, or more people have discovered this slice of paradise, but it was definitely a bit more crowded this time. It would be impossible for something like that to ruin a day at Conchal though!
